Restorative Movement, Mindful Eating Workshop

We’ve been taught to fear our bodies. There is a trained disconnect in which the body becomes a heavy object to which our spirit is shackled. Pressures around appearance, weight, and ability all contribute to feelings of inadequacy. People of all genders end up feeling like we must look and behave certain ways in order to be loved, and the body must be perfect in order to be acceptable.
In this environment, many people end up in a continuous struggle to lose weight, pitting themselves against their body as an enemy. Rather than being a source of joy and energy, food becomes a battlefield of self against self, and there are no winners.
So too, physical discomfort and pain are most often greeted with frustration, further evidence of the body as an obstacle to enjoying life. We learn to medicate, ignore, and fight pain without ever really understanding its messages.
This special workshop works to foster a new understanding of the mind-body paradigm, one in which the body is not an object to be overcome but a perfect expression of the soul. Learn how to listen to its messages as the call of your Higher Self, and how to respond in a way that promotes self-healing.
In this 4-hour workshop we will:
* Learn how to listen to and respond to pain in the body so it actively heals itself, using movements from Somatic Re-Education Therapy (effective for both chronic and acute pain).
Note: This involves movement practices on a yoga mat, mat provided if needed. Please wear comfortable clothes.
* Practice Mindful Eating, a way of engaging with food that feeds the parts inside that are starving. This can help heal eating disorders and reclaim food as a source of nourishment and joy.
Note: A small amount of food will be provided for this practice, please mark on your registration if you have any food allergies or concerns for us to be aware of.
* Restore and balance the mind-body system, so the body becomes a source of ease and pleasure as it’s intended
When you restore the mind-body connection, a base level of tension releases and all aspects of life become easier. Come, discover what’s possible when your physicality becomes a source of joy in your life.
About the Presenter: In addition to her intuitive work, Jewel Marin is a Professional Counselor Associate and is in the process of earning her license. As a counselor she specializes in trauma and the associated mind-body disconnection. Previously, she earned her massage license in 2005. In 2007 she was introduced to Somatic Re-Education Therapy, a form of bodywork which enables the body to self-heal chronic and acute muscle and joint pain.
In 2009 she experienced a psychic awakening that led her to train intensively under advanced spiritual teachers. This experience gave her a new, integrated understanding of the mind-body system as a path to enlightenment.
This workshop combines her training in counseling, bodywork, and spirituality to undo the anxiety and sense of powerlessness that comes from feeling unsafe in your body. When you feel at home and supported on the inside, you feel stronger and more capable on the outside.
