What is “psychic awareness” aware of?  I have a simple answer:

Energy.

We all sense it, we all have it.  There is energy moving in the world all around us, and I doubt it’s possible to be alive without feeling some level of it.  Someone enters a room without making a sound, you still know they’re there.  Hold your hands up in front of each other, you can feel a tingling between them.  This is how I define psychic ability:  sensing energy.

For myself and perhaps others who identify as “psychic”, this sensation can be a little more intense.  What I believe happened when I had my psychic awakening (the story of which can be read here) is my body was altered physically to sense energy more acutely.

I have a guess that if science starts studying the body more than the mind to understand psychic awareness, there will be some giant leaps forward in public knowledge of how and why it works.

I’ll go into what it’s actually like to do a reading in another post.  For now, I’ll just say that waking up at 3am with my body buzzing is not wholly uncommon for me, and that there have been times that lasted for days or even weeks when I couldn’t stay still, sleep or eat because the feeling of energy was so intense.

This “buzzing” is similar in ways to a panic attack.  My heart pounds rapidly, I have trouble taking even breaths, I become emotionally irrational and often lose the ability to stand or move.  Group meditations, spiritual services, and the presence of anyone with strong energy usually set me off.

It’s gotten better with time.   I’ve had clear experiences which demonstrate that when I feel this buzzing, something holding on that doesn’t serve is being cleared out.  I imagine it like layers of dirt being scrubbed away, making room for a higher energy vibration to move in.  After a year, there is far less resistance left in me than there was at the beginning, and I’m able to receive and process strong energy much more easily.

However, if someone recommends I attend something with “an amazing energy transmission”, I usually check if a friend can drive me.  I also take steps to eat a healthy, protein dense meal ahead of time and to center in my body.  Meditations to open the lower chakras so there is less resistance are also helpful.

Basically, the more I can do to be grounded and open in my body ahead of time, the easier the experience will be.
